Standard Operating Procedure

1. Purpose

This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is designed to ensure a transparent, systematic, and accountable publication process in OASIS: Jurnal Ilmiah Kajian Islam. It regulates the workflow from manuscript submission to publication.

2. Scope

This SOP applies to all parties involved in the journal publication process, including:

  • Authors
  • Editors
  • Reviewers
  • Editorial Staff
  • Publisher

3. Manuscript Submission

  • Authors submit manuscripts through the Online Journal System (OJS).
  • Manuscripts must comply with the Author Guidelines and journal template.
  • Authors must ensure that the manuscript is original and free from plagiarism.

4. Initial Screening (Desk Evaluation)

  • The Editor-in-Chief or assigned editor conducts an initial review.
  • Evaluation includes:
    • Scope relevance
    • Writing quality
    • Compliance with journal guidelines
    • Plagiarism screening (maximum similarity 20%)
  • Manuscripts that do not meet criteria will be rejected or returned for revision.

5. Peer Review Process

  • Manuscripts that pass initial screening are sent to reviewers.
  • The journal applies a double-blind peer review system.
  • Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two reviewers.
  • Review duration: 2–4 weeks.

6. Editorial Decision

Based on reviewers’ recommendations, the editor decides:

  • Accept
  • Minor Revision
  • Major Revision
  • Reject

The decision is communicated to the author through the OJS system.

7. Revision Process

  • Authors must revise manuscripts according to reviewer comments.
  • Authors must submit:
    • Revised manuscript
    • Response to reviewers (point-by-point)
  • Revision deadlines:
    • Minor: 1–2 weeks
    • Major: 2–4 weeks

8. Final Decision

  • The editor evaluates the revised manuscript.
  • If necessary, the manuscript is returned to reviewers.
  • Final decision: Accept or Reject.

9. Copyediting and Layout

  • Accepted manuscripts undergo:
    • Copyediting (language and format)
    • Layout editing (journal template)
  • Authors may be asked to review proofs before publication.

10. Publication

  • Articles are published online according to the journal schedule (February and August).
  • Each article is assigned DOI (if available).

11. Ethical Compliance

  • The journal adheres to publication ethics based on COPE guidelines.
  • All forms of misconduct (plagiarism, fabrication, duplication) are strictly prohibited.

12. Archiving and Indexing

  • Published articles are archived in the journal system.
  • The journal supports indexing and long-term digital preservation.

13. Responsibilities

Reviewer

  • Provide objective and constructive feedback
  • Maintain confidentiality

Author

  • Ensure originality
  • Revise manuscripts responsibly

14. Communication

All communication between authors, editors, and reviewers is conducted through the OJS platform. Direct communication via email is only used when necessary.

15. Continuous Improvement

The editorial team regularly evaluates and improves the journal management system to maintain quality and meet national and international standards.
