Keberadaan Bimbingan dan Konseling Islam sudah ada sejak pesantren berdiri, hanya saja tidak secara sistemastis terkait tindakan seorang konselor dan tidak pula mengenal dengan istilah bimbingan konseling Islam, begitupun dengan hal penyuluhan agama. Jika membahasa mengenai praktiknya memang cenderung implisit, dalam berbagai praktiknya pasti hanya dengan kebiasaan budaya yang telah dilakukannya sebagai bimbinga konseling Islam atau melihat sebagai acuan yang konkrit pada Al-Qur’an dan Hadits. Perkembangan zaman yang semakin pesat, begitupun perkembangan keilmuan bimbingan dan konseling di Indonseia, semakin hari semakin berkembang atas pandangan dari berbagai ilmuan dibidang tersebut. Melihat perkembangan itu, peran seorang konselor pun kian kuat dan progresif untuk bersama-sama bisa mengupayakan adanya perubahan prilaku terhadap diri konseli. Terbukti hingga saat ini, bimbingan dan konseling Islam menjadi salah satu pendekatan yang efektif serta peran progresif dalam menuntaskan berbagai masalah pada kesehatan mental konseli.
