Abstract

Business management among economically vulnerable residents requires knowledge, recordkeeping, and locally relevant assistance. This community service programme examined changes in Islamic economics literacy, participant evaluations, and assisted-business income in Karyamukti Village, Garut Regency. A participatory action research framework was combined with a descriptive before-and-after evaluation involving ten participants. Baseline measurement took place on 10–11 July, endline on 13–15 August, and follow-up on 15 September 2026. Instruments comprised a ten-item knowledge test, a twelve-item evaluation, and four-week transaction and income summaries. Mean literacy scores increased from 46 to 74, with a median individual gain of 35 points. Mean satisfaction, relevance, and perceived benefit scores were 3.50, 3.18, and 3.33 on a four-point scale, respectively. Endline records contained 155 transactions, while median income increased from IDR 90,000 to IDR 305,000. At follow-up, eight of nine observed participants reported continuing their businesses, and median income was IDR 390,000. Improvements were uneven: one participant experienced an endline income decline and another discontinued business by follow-up. Continued assistance should emphasize simple recordkeeping, tailored materials, and mentoring. The absence of a comparison group limits causal interpretation.
