Abstract

Belum banyak orang yang mengenal penyakit lupus atau Systemic Lupus Erithematosus (SLE), karena memang penyakit langka. Namun akhir-akhir ini ada kecenderungan peningkatan prevalensi terjadinya kasus lupus ini.  Gejala yang paling mudah dikenali adalah adanya bercak merah di sekitar wajah yang menyerupai kupu-kupu yang disebut “Butterfly Rushâ€.  Mekanisme biokimiawinya belum banyak diketahui, namun penyebab pastinya adalah disfungsional sistem imun.  Kelainan ini disebabkan adanya mutasi pada gen-gen yang menentukan permukaan sel limpfosit, sehingga antibodi menyerang bagian-bagian tubuh sendiri, atau yang disebut dengan autoimun.
