Authorship Criteria

ORASI: Jurnal Dakwah dan Komunikasi
Authorship Criteria
Policies on authorship, contributorship, accountability, and responsible scholarly publishing.

Policy Statement

Authorship in ORASI: Jurnal Dakwah dan Komunikasi represents both scholarly credit and responsibility for the integrity of published work. Every person listed as an author must have made a meaningful intellectual contribution to the manuscript and must be willing to take responsibility for the work.

The journal applies transparent and ethical authorship practices informed by the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and established international authorship guidance. These principles apply to all manuscripts submitted to ORASI.

1. Authorship Requirements

A person may be listed as an author only when they have fulfilled all four of the following requirements:

01
Substantial Contribution
Contribute substantially to the conception or design of the research, the acquisition of data or sources, or the analysis and interpretation of research findings.
02
Writing and Critical Review
Participate in drafting the manuscript or critically reviewing it for important intellectual content.
03
Final Approval
Review and approve the final version of the manuscript before it is published.
04
Accountability
Agree to be accountable for the work and to help investigate and resolve any questions concerning its accuracy, integrity, or ethical conduct.

All individuals designated as authors must meet all four requirements. Anyone who has made a qualifying contribution should be given the opportunity to participate in manuscript review, revision, and final approval.

2. Composition of the Writing Team

  • ORASI welcomes collaborative and interdisciplinary research in the fields of Islamic preaching, da'wah, communication, media, religious studies, and related areas.
  • Authorship must be based on actual scholarly contributions, not academic rank, institutional position, seniority, personal relationships, or funding status.
  • All authors must participate appropriately in the research and manuscript preparation and must be able to explain their respective contributions.
  • For research involving interviews, observations, documents, or other empirical materials, authors must accurately describe their involvement and ensure that the data are obtained and used ethically.
  • Authors are responsible for ensuring that all relevant ethical approvals, permissions, and consent requirements have been fulfilled where applicable.

3. Author Identification and Affiliation

  • Authors must provide their full names consistently and must not include academic titles or professional honorifics in the author-name field.
  • Each author's institutional affiliation must identify the institution and its city and country.
  • Authors must provide valid institutional or professional email addresses where available.
  • Authors are encouraged to provide their ORCID iD to support accurate identification and attribution of scholarly work.
  • The corresponding author must provide accurate contact details and is responsible for communication with the editorial office throughout submission, peer review, revision, and publication.
  • All authors must verify the accuracy of their names, affiliations, contact information, and author metadata before final publication.

4. Order of Authors

The order of authors must reflect the relative scholarly contributions agreed upon by the authors themselves. The first author is generally the person who has made the greatest contribution to the research and manuscript, unless the authors have agreed on another justified arrangement.

All authors must agree on the final author order before submission. The corresponding author is responsible for confirming this agreement and ensuring that all listed authors have approved the submitted manuscript.

5. Contributors Who Are Not Authors

Individuals who assist with a manuscript but do not meet all authorship requirements must not be listed as authors. Their contributions may be acknowledged in an Acknowledgements section, with their permission where appropriate.

Examples of contributions that do not, on their own, qualify a person for authorship include:

  • Providing general supervision or administrative support.
  • Obtaining funding without making a substantive intellectual contribution.
  • Providing routine data collection assistance without contributing substantially to the research or its interpretation.
  • Performing language editing, proofreading, formatting, or technical assistance alone.
  • Offering general advice without participating substantially in the conception, analysis, interpretation, or writing of the work.

6. Prohibited Authorship Practices

Gift Authorship
Listing an individual as an author as a favor or gesture of respect without a qualifying contribution.
Guest Authorship
Including a prominent or influential person to increase the likelihood of acceptance without a qualifying contribution.
Ghost Authorship
Excluding an individual who has made a substantial qualifying contribution to the research or manuscript.
Misrepresentation of Contributions
Providing false or misleading information about the roles, responsibilities, or contributions of any author.

Suspected authorship violations may be investigated in accordance with the journal's publication ethics and research misconduct policies. Appropriate editorial action may be taken when a violation is established.

7. Changes to the List of Authors

Any request to add, remove, or reorder authors after manuscript submission must be submitted in writing to the editorial office. The request must explain the reason for the change and include written agreement from all affected authors, including any author whose name is to be removed.

The Editor-in-Chief will assess the request and may seek additional information before making a decision. Changes must not be made unilaterally, and no author information may be altered without appropriate authorization.

8. Author Contributions Statement

Authors are encouraged to provide a clear statement describing each author's specific contribution to the research and manuscript. Where applicable, the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) may be used to describe contributions such as conceptualization, methodology, investigation, data curation, formal analysis, writing—original draft, writing—review and editing, supervision, and project administration.

Example

Author A: Conceptualization, methodology, and writing—original draft. Author B: Investigation, formal analysis, and data curation. Author C: Supervision and writing—review and editing.

The contribution statement must accurately reflect the work performed by each author. All authors are responsible for confirming its accuracy.

9. Editors and Reviewers as Authors

Editors, editorial board members, and reviewers may submit manuscripts to ORASI provided that they meet the same authorship criteria and submission requirements as other contributors. Their manuscripts must undergo the journal's standard editorial screening and peer-review process.

Any editor or reviewer involved in a submission must disclose relevant conflicts of interest and must not participate in editorial decisions or peer review where their involvement could compromise impartiality. Editorial independence and confidentiality must be maintained throughout the process.

10. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including generative AI systems, chatbots, and AI-assisted writing or image-generation applications, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the integrity, accuracy, and originality of scholarly work.

Authors who use AI tools in preparing a manuscript must disclose such use in accordance with the journal's AI policy. The disclosure should identify the tool and explain its role in the preparation of the work where applicable.

Authors remain fully responsible for verifying factual claims, references, data, quotations, images, and other materials generated or assisted by AI. AI use must not result in plagiarism, fabricated citations, manipulated research findings, or violations of confidentiality and research ethics.

11. Related Policies

This Authorship Criteria policy should be read together with ORASI's other editorial and publication policies, including the Author Guidelines, Publication Ethics, Peer Review Process, Research Misconduct, and Artificial Intelligence Policy, where available.
