Authorship Criteria
Prophetic: Professional, Empathy, Islamic Counseling Journal
Policy Statement
Authorship of a manuscript published in Prophetic: Professional, Empathy, Islamic Counseling Journal represents both scholarly credit and responsibility. The journal follows internationally recognised principles of publication ethics, including the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), where applicable.
These criteria apply to all manuscripts submitted to the journal. Every person listed as an author must have made a meaningful intellectual contribution to the research and must accept responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the published work.
1. Authorship Requirements
An individual may be recognised as an author only when all of the following criteria are fulfilled:
- Substantial contribution: The individual has made a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the study, the development of the research framework, data collection, data analysis, or interpretation of the findings.
- Writing and critical revision: The individual has participated in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.
- Final approval: The individual has reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript before publication.
- Accountability: The individual agrees to be accountable for their own contributions and to help ensure that questions concerning the accuracy, integrity, or ethical conduct of the research are appropriately investigated and resolved.
All authors must meet all four criteria. Participation limited to administrative assistance, routine data collection, funding acquisition, supervision without intellectual contribution, or language editing alone does not automatically qualify an individual for authorship.
2. Composition of the Author Team
- The journal welcomes collaboration among researchers, academics, practitioners, and scholars from different institutions and disciplines, particularly in guidance and counseling in education, islamic guidance counseling, the application of counseling technique, theories of personality, and assessment in guidance and counseling.
- Interdisciplinary and international collaborations are encouraged when they contribute meaningfully to the quality, originality, and scholarly relevance of the research.
- Manuscripts are evaluated according to their scientific quality, originality, methodological rigour, relevance to the journal's focus and scope, and contribution to the advancement of guidance and counseling knowledge and practice.
- The number, institutional affiliation, nationality, academic position, or professional status of the authors does not determine the acceptance of a manuscript.
- For research involving interviews, observations, counselling sessions, or other field data, authors must accurately describe their roles in the research and ensure that data collection has been conducted ethically and in accordance with applicable research protocols.
3. Author Identity and Affiliations
- Full name: Each author must provide their full name without academic degrees, professional titles, or organisational positions.
- Institutional affiliation: Each author must provide the official name of their department or study programme, faculty or school, university or institution, city, and country.
- Email address: Each author must provide an active institutional or professional email address. An alternative active email address may be provided when an institutional email is unavailable.
- ORCID iD: Authors are encouraged to provide their ORCID iD to support accurate identification and attribution of scholarly work.
- Corresponding author: One author must be designated as the corresponding author and provide their full name, institutional affiliation, active email address, and telephone number when requested by the journal.
- Accuracy of information: All author names, affiliations, email addresses, and researcher identifiers must be accurate and consistent across the manuscript and the OJS submission metadata.
4. Order of Authors
The order of authors must reflect the relative contributions of each individual to the research and manuscript preparation. The first author is generally the person who has made the most substantial contribution to the study and manuscript, while the corresponding author is responsible for communication with the editorial office throughout the submission, review, and publication process.
All authors must agree on the author list and the order of authors before submission. The corresponding author is responsible for confirming that all listed authors have approved the submitted manuscript and agreed to their respective contributions.
5. Contributors Who Do Not Qualify for Authorship
Individuals or organisations that have contributed to the research but do not meet all authorship requirements should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section, where appropriate and with their permission.
Such contributions may include administrative assistance, technical support, language editing, transcription, logistical assistance, or funding support without substantial intellectual involvement in the research.
Authors must ensure that acknowledgments accurately describe the nature of each contribution and do not imply authorship where the relevant criteria have not been met.
6. Prohibited Authorship Practices
The journal does not permit the following practices:
- Gift authorship: Including an individual as an author as a gesture of gratitude, respect, seniority, or institutional position when that individual has not made the required scholarly contribution.
- Guest authorship: Adding a well-known researcher, senior academic, or other individual to the author list primarily to increase the likelihood of manuscript acceptance or publication.
- Ghost authorship: Omitting an individual who has made a substantial qualifying contribution to the research or manuscript.
- Unauthorised authorship: Listing an individual as an author without their knowledge or consent, or submitting a manuscript without the approval of all listed authors.
- Misrepresentation of contributions: Providing false, misleading, or incomplete information regarding the contributions of authors or other participants in the research.
Suspected authorship violations will be handled in accordance with the journal's publication ethics and research misconduct procedures. The editorial team may request explanations, contribution statements, supporting documentation, or clarification from the individuals concerned.
7. Changes to the Authorship List
Any addition, removal, or rearrangement of authors after manuscript submission must be supported by a written request to the Editor-in-Chief or the editorial office. The request must explain the reason for the proposed change and include written agreement from all authors, including any individual whose name is being added or removed.
The Editor-in-Chief will evaluate the request and may ask for additional information or supporting documentation before making a decision. Changes to authorship will not be accepted solely to reflect changes in academic position, institutional affiliation, or personal preference without a valid justification related to authorship contributions.
Unauthorised changes to the author list may result in a delay in editorial processing or other appropriate action under the journal's publication ethics policy.
8. Author Contribution Statement
All submitted manuscripts must include an author contribution statement that clearly describes the role of each author. The journal encourages the use of the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) to describe individual contributions consistently and transparently.
Depending on the nature of the study, relevant contribution roles may include conceptualisation, methodology, investigation, data curation, formal analysis, validation, visualisation, writing – original draft, writing – review and editing, supervision, project administration, and funding acquisition.
Authors should include only those contribution roles that accurately reflect the work performed by each individual. The contribution statement does not replace the requirement that every listed author must satisfy all four authorship criteria.
Example:
Author 1: Conceptualisation, methodology, investigation, data curation, and writing – original draft. Author 2: Formal analysis, validation, and writing – review and editing. Author 3: Supervision, project administration, and writing – review and editing. All authors reviewed and approved the final manuscript.
9. Editors and Reviewers as Authors
Editors, editorial board members, and reviewers may submit manuscripts to the journal, provided that they meet the same authorship requirements and publication standards as other contributors.
Any submission involving an editor, editorial board member, or reviewer must be handled through an independent editorial process. The individual concerned must not participate in editorial decisions, reviewer selection, or peer-review discussions relating to their own manuscript. Appropriate measures must be taken to prevent conflicts of interest and protect the confidentiality and impartiality of the peer-review process.
10. Artificial Intelligence and Authorship
Artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including generative AI systems, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot accept responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, originality, or ethical implications of scholarly work.
Authors who use AI tools in preparing a manuscript must comply with the journal's AI and Generative AI Policy. Any disclosure required by that policy must accurately describe the use of AI tools, including their role in writing, translation, data processing, analysis, or the preparation of figures and other materials.
Authors remain fully responsible for verifying all AI-assisted content, checking the accuracy of references and factual claims, protecting confidential information, and ensuring that the manuscript complies with the journal's ethical standards.
