Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
EduMa: Journal of Mathematics Education is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against publication malpractice. This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher. The journal adheres to internationally recognized standards, particularly those established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
EduMa is dedicated to publishing original and high-quality scholarly work in the field of mathematics education. All parties are expected to demonstrate integrity, transparency, and professionalism throughout the publication process.
Allegation of Research Misconduct
Research misconduct includes fabrication, falsification, citation manipulation, and plagiarism in the conduct, reporting, or review of research. A manuscript is considered to contain plagiarism if it demonstrates a similarity index of 20 percent or more without proper citation.
When misconduct is suspected, the editorial board will conduct an initial assessment to determine the validity of the allegation. If necessary, the corresponding author will be contacted to provide clarification. Additional expert review may be conducted to support the evaluation.
If misconduct is confirmed in a submitted manuscript, the manuscript will be rejected. If misconduct is identified after publication, the journal will issue appropriate corrections or retractions to maintain the integrity of the academic record. The journal follows COPE guidelines in handling all cases of publication misconduct.
Complaints and Appeals
EduMa provides a clear mechanism for handling complaints related to the editorial process, including issues involving authors, reviewers, editors, or the publisher. All complaints will be handled fairly, transparently, and in accordance with COPE guidelines.
Authors have the right to appeal editorial decisions by submitting a justified explanation to the editorial office. Appeals will be evaluated objectively and independently.
Ethical Oversight
Research involving human participants, animals, or sensitive data must comply with relevant ethical standards and institutional guidelines. Authors are required to obtain ethical approval from an appropriate ethics committee when necessary and to include a statement of ethical clearance in the manuscript.
Informed consent must be obtained from all participants involved in the study. For vulnerable populations, consent must be obtained from legal guardians. Authors must ensure confidentiality and proper data protection.
Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and transparency of the data presented in their manuscripts.
Duties and Responsibilities of Editors
Editors are responsible for making fair and unbiased decisions regarding submitted manuscripts based solely on their academic merit, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal's scope. Editorial decisions are not influenced by the authors’ personal characteristics or institutional affiliations.
All manuscripts are evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process involving at least two independent reviewers. The identity of both authors and reviewers is kept confidential throughout the review process.
Editors must maintain the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and must not use unpublished materials for personal research purposes without explicit consent from the authors. Editors are required to disclose any conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where such conflicts exist.
Editors will take appropriate action when ethical concerns arise, including issuing corrections, clarifications, or retractions when necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are required to submit original work that has not been published or submitted elsewhere. All sources must be properly cited, and any use of others’ work must be clearly acknowledged.
Authors must ensure that the data presented are accurate, valid, and free from manipulation. They should be prepared to provide raw data for editorial review and to retain it for a reasonable period after publication.
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript prior to submission.
Authors must disclose any conflicts of interest and any sources of funding that supported the research. If significant errors are identified after publication, authors are obligated to promptly notify the journal and cooperate in correcting or retracting the work.
Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers
Reviewers play a critical role in ensuring the quality of published work. They are expected to provide objective, constructive, and timely evaluations of submitted manuscripts.
Reviewers must treat all manuscripts as confidential documents and must not use any information obtained during the review process for personal advantage. They should identify relevant published work that has not been cited and alert the editor to any potential ethical issues, including plagiarism or duplication.
Reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest and decline to review manuscripts where such conflicts exist.
Corrections and Retractions
EduMa is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. When necessary, corrections will be issued to address minor errors, while retractions will be applied in cases of serious ethical violations or unreliable findings.
All corrections and retractions will be clearly identified and linked to the original article.
