Career Women In The Perspective Of Hadith: An Analysis Of Fazlur Rahman’s Double Movement Theory

Abstract

The role of women during the Prophet's era in supporting economic well-being was often fulfilled through their responsibilities as homemakers, with their financial needs generally being provided by their husbands. Based on this historical practice, this study aims to examine how hadith serves as a foundation for permitting women to work, how this concept is implemented, and how it is perceived by society. This research is a field study employing a qualitative method, using Fazlur Rahman's Double Movement theory alongside phenomenological and reception approaches. Primary data were obtained directly from several cases in the field, while secondary data were collected through literature studies, including books, hadith compilations, journal articles, and other relevant sources.The findings reveal that Islam provides opportunities for women to pursue careers and participate in social and economic life, provided that they continue to observe Islamic principles, public welfare (maslahah), and family responsibilities. Therefore, the concept of career women in Islam can be understood as a form of self-actualization and social contribution that aligns with the values of justice, equality, and cooperation between men and women in building family and community life.
